This yet-untitled Imtiaz Ali film will see the actor opposite Deepika Padukone.
Back in Kolkata a few years after his stint in Parineeta, Saif Ali Khan is shooting again at Sardar Shankar Road near Lake Market in South Kolkata. His second visit for a film shoot has been a blessing for the neighbourhood hawkers.
The hawkers who frame the streets and pavements of the road and the lanes off it have been given Rs 2,000 each to enjoy a four-day sabbatical and enjoy themselves so that the shooting team can shoot in peace without these hawkers getting into their hair.
Says one of the hawkers, "To make Rs 300 per day is one long struggle for us. In this grim scenario, Rs 2000 for four days without having to do anything is a blessing for us."
The bonus comes from Illuminati Films, Saif's production company that makes its debut with this film. Yet untitled, the film is being directed by Imtiaz Ali whose Jab We Met is one of the biggest hits of this year. The film pairs Saif Ali Khan opposite Deepika Padukone for the first time.
About 100 hawkers who sell vegetables, fruit and fish along Sardar Sankar Road and another 300 hawkers from the Lake Market area have cashed in on the Bollywood booty.
Some of the houses along the lane where the shooting will take place are also receiving a face-lift with fresh coats of painting, an expected lottery prize for these families on Pooja eve.
